The AVE high speed train between Malaga and Madrid has reached 5.787.800 million passengers since its commissioning on 24 December 2007.
The AVE Malaga-Madrid was the first to link the Spanish capital with a seaside town, a transfer which takes place via a fleet of 24 trains daily stopping in Antequera-Santa Ana, Puente Genil-Herrera, Córdoba, Ciudad Real and Puertollano.
In its first three years of operation, this high-speed and long distance service has established itself as a major transportation option between Madrid and the capital of the Costa del Sol.
This line led to the subsequent creation of new products AVE to the Costa del Sol, such as trains Avant linking Seville with Cordoba and Malaga or the AVE linking Barcelona and Zaragoza with the city of Málaga.
