Malaga Airport – Most car hire pick-ups in Europe
The trend of car hire at the most popular destinations has remained fairly stable in recent years, with Malaga Airport taking the top spot in both winter and summer.
According to a recently published report, Malaga airport is the most used car hire pick-up point in Europe. Malaga airport is continually breaking its own records when it comes to the number of passengers arriving on the Costa del Sol.
A large number of these travellers are also interested in having a vehicle at their disposal with which to travel around the province on the days they visit. This has made Malaga airport the most used car hire pick-up point in Europe.
The report reveals that it is the British, who account for almost 30% of passenger traffic in this infrastructure on the Costa del Sol, who demand rentacar services the most in Europe.
They are followed by French residents, while Germans are in third place. These three markets are precisely the main international issuers of tourists to the province.

As mentioned before, every year Malaga airport surpasses its own previously set records regarding passenger volume and flights to the Costa del Sol.
The high season in Malaga runs from July to September, however, it is the month of August that brings the most tourists in search of sun and beach.
So, for these first days of August, the Malaga aerodrome faces the August departure operation with a schedule of 2,848 flights from Wednesday 31 July to Sunday 4 August.
The figure, which adds up to 200 more arrivals and departures than in the same period last year, means up to ten flights per minute on Thursday. And at an average of one flight every three minutes.
Of these, 2,301 – 80% – will be international operations, which will peak this Saturday with 487 flights to and from abroad compared to 81 domestic flights.
The busiest day will be this Wednesday, when 576 movements are planned, 467 of which will be international, followed by Sunday 4 August with 572 operations (452 international).
The British market leads the demand
Last June, the airport exceeded 2.4 million passengers (+11.6%) and overtook July 2024 as the month with the most passengers at the Malaga aerodrome.
The market with the highest demand continues to be the British market, with 2,602,205 passengers at Malaga airport since the start of 2024, followed by the German (881,119) and Dutch (723,313).
If the trend continues, Malaga airport will beat the passenger record with which it closed 2023. In the best figure in its history, it handled a total of 22 million passengers.
